PST to MBOX conversion can be handled either through an Outlook based manual workflow or with a dedicated converter.
Manual Approach: Add an IMAP account to Outlook and copy the required PST folders or messages into the corresponding IMAP folders. Once the data is synchronized, open the same account in an MBOX based client such as Thunderbird and export the required folders to MBOX. This method is workable for limited data, but large PST archives can involve considerable synchronization and folder management work.
Dedicated Software Approach: A dedicated converter reads the PST directly and creates MBOX files without requiring an intermediate IMAP mailbox. WholeClear PST to MBOX Converter provides PST preview, selected folder conversion, and export of emails with attachments, formatting, and folder structure.
For a large or structured mailbox, the direct conversion route is generally easier to control and verify.
